Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(Pay Scale E 13 TV-L, 100 %)

The research group Semantic Information Systems at the Institute of Computer Science of the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science/Physics is looking for a research assistant. The position is for a period of 3 years, starting as soon as possible. As part of the DFG project MODUS-II (Model-based Anomaly Pattern Detection and Analysis in Ubiquitous and Social Interaction Networks), the person holding the position is to develop novel methods from the field of interpretable/explanatory machine learning; this refers to, in particular, network- or graph-based modeling and learning methods (e.g. using graph-based machine learning, graph neural networks or pattern mining methods) in the field of explainable/interpretable anomaly detection on complex data (in particular, relating to sequential/dynamic network/graph data).


Your Duties:

  • Participation in research and teaching of the research group, at the interface of the research areas Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Big Data
  • Peer-review publication of research results
  • Participation in externally-funded funded research/projects
  • Performing organizational tasks in the research group    
  • The possibility to obtain a doctorate degree

Requirements:

  • You will have completed an above-average academic degree (Master's or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, physics, cognitive science or a related field of study with a focus in one of the above-mentioned research areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of AI or data science methods and in at least one of the following areas

    • Interpretable machine learning
    • Deep learning on complex data
    • Relational machine learning

  • In-depth knowledge of programming (e.g. Python, R, Java, C#)
  • Very good English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Independent, structured, self-reliant and team-oriented way of working

Additional Qualifications: Ideally, you have

  • Excellent knowledge in at least one of the above-mentioned research areas
  • First experiences in scientific work at a research institution or university
  • In addition to the mastery of Python, very good knowledge of at least one other object-oriented programming language (e.g. Java)
  • In-depth knowledge of deep learning frameworks (e.g. Tensorflow, PyTorch, PyG, etc.)
  • Knowledge of network analysis methods (social network analysis, analysis of complex networks) and corresponding frameworks (e.g. igraph, NetworkX)
